Spring Portraits with real baby ducks!

I am so excited to be able to do spring mini-sessions this year with real live baby ducks! This is something I have wanted to do for years, but never had the opportunity. We will also have a bunny for just good measure. These adorable critters will be in the studio Friday, April 22nd and Saturday April 23 – Easter Weekend. So break out those Easter outfits and call (479)566-9856 to book your 30 minute session. Remember, Mother’s Day is May 8th, and what momma doesn’t love getting pictures as presents! Sessions are $50.00 plus tax and include 30 minutes in the studio, an online gallery, and one 5×7 of your favorite image – a great deal! Space is limited, and time slots will be given on a first come, first served basis. This is going to be SO much fun, and I hope to see you there!

P.S. My google linked number listed above seems to be flaking out on me. You can also call (479)839-4321 or email me at steelyjoestudio@gmail.com

Allison’s Newborn session

Baby Allison came to the studio for her newborn session at about 2 weeks old. She is a very pretty baby with a very full head of hair! I met her mom through W.I.N. (women in networking) where she was the winning bidder on my silent auction package. I usually don’t do a lot of baby photography, so this was a fun (and challenging) departure from brides and teens! Here are a few images from the shoot:

Awww, look at her looking up at her daddy.

Allison and her mommy.

Perfect little baby feet

since it was the Christmas season, we had to get of few of her in her new Christmas dress.

I hope everyone is having a good holiday season so far! Only a week to go till Christmas and I am really looking forward to seeing my family next weekend! Between shopping trips and everything on your “to do” list, make sure to take some time to enjoy the season before its gone.

ACH Fall Carnival

Arkansas Children’s Hospital hosted their 3rd Annual Fall Carnival at the Pauline Whitaker Horse Pavillion on October 26. This event provides a safe place for kids to dress up, play games and get lots of candy and prizes while also raising money for the hospital. It was a lot of fun to photograph the event, and I thought I would share some of my favorite images from the event. You can see all the images in this gallery.

The U of A Diamond Dolls were on hand to help raffle off the "Crooked House" playhouse.

The play house was Razorback themed “Kids Crooked House”  and sponsored by New Corp.

The face painting station. I love the very serious supervision this girl is getting from her friend!

These kids are totally amazed by the magician!

Fun in the bouncy house.

I am a big fan of making costumes, and these were 2 of my favorites. The one on the left is inspired by the movie "the Birds"- retro dress, shoes and handbag, and big black birds "attacking" her. The peacock on the right was gorgeous in person and very detailed. She had real peacock feathers in a fan on her back and as a hair piece. The blue leotard and tutu were topped off with a glittered mask. So pretty!

One of the most popular booths at the carnival was Shag Salon's hair painting station. The kids absoutely loved getting colored streaks sprayed in thier hair!

Newborn Portraits

Recently I watched a video about a photographer named John Ridgeway who specializes in newborn portraiture. He has an amazing gift for working with babies! After watching him work, I really wanted to try some newborn photography (I really have not done much). As luck would have it, one of my existing clients just had a baby, so borrowed him as a test subject. He was very cooperative and stayed sound asleep for most of the shoot. The was a great learning experience for me and I think the images came out pretty nice.

Madden is 12 days old in these pictures.

Look as his cute little fingers!

I thought jeans would be a fun alternative to the traditional stack-of-towels baby portrait.

He woke up long enough to give a collossal yawn, and then he was out again!

A great big Thank You to the Fields family for letting me do this!

Working with kids

Working with very young kids is always a challenge! This portrait session last week proves that you can’t always control the events of the day, but sometimes that gives you the best images! A very determined 2 year old is hard to keep out of the pond if you are distracted with his sibblings. The last image shows dad arriving just a spit second too late to avoid the inevitable…
